Painting Walk Out for Captive Animals in New York City
I envision animals in captivity in New York walking freely around the city. I made for seven animals who either work for humans or reside in local zoos (Central Park cab horse, Nicobar Pigeon, Panamanian Golden Frog, Macaroni Penguin, California Sea Lion, Snow Leopard). The walkout questions the sustainability of captive systems, which animals, such as California Sea Lion, have attempted to escape from. It also invites people to reflect on our relationship with these captive animals and imagine alternative non-exploitative models of living with them.
